Nowadays, sadness is like any other emotion... you feel sad when you have a loss, loss of spouse, friend, relative, or anyone who admire or you may lose money or you may lose your hard work and efforts of time and energy or it may be due to strained relationship.  It is okay to be sad at such times, it mellows our mind and makes us calm and settles, let it take its time.... but see that it does not disrupt your daily activities or your responsibilities or your goals to achieve.  Every successful person that you know of has gone through this phase too... but they do not let this emotion disrupt their routines... bounce back as fast as you can from that mood.... feeling happy.  Other than the loss of a person, evaluate the consequences of loss, are there any learnings that we need to take and rebuild ourself.  in case of a relationship, see if can approach a counselor, or just try to understand the other person's emotions, and change yourself if needed.  if it is a toxic person or situation, keep away from that person, do not deal with them anymore, and change the location.  If it is not possible as is the case may be with spouse, in-laws, relatives, or friends, or classmate, keep the contact to a minimum and to the point needed.  Keep yourself motivated by reading some book, an activity you like or paSsionate about, watch music or video that you admire of.  See what works for you... try to help someone who is in need, it will help soothe yourself.
